Abstract
The philosophy of lean production and lean thinking is the different expression mode of industrial engineering in different countries, enterprises and environments. In recent years, with the emergence of service-oriented economy, the concept of modern manufacturing services has been paid attention more and more by the scholars in academia and business circles at home and abroad. The development of modern manufacturing services industry has become an important force in the manufacturing sector´s upgrading and the promotion of sustainable development. This paper describes the theory source of lean thinking, the problems faced at the present stage of China´s manufacturing industry, the background and conceptual evolution of modern manufacturing services. Finally, an example will be introduced for the application of lean thinking in the transition of manufacturing-services.
