Abstract
This is a tutorial exploring some of the key engineering issues that have been and must be addressed to construct solid state lasers in the 100 kW, CW class with good beam quality. Both slab and fiber approaches are considered. In both cases some form of beam combining is also required, and two promising beam combining approaches are considered.
