Abstract :
As the development of the internet, various application traffics take up a lot of network resources and also disturb some important services´ usage. Meanwhile, IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4) has shown obvious limitation in many respects. Thus IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) came into existence as the situation requires and became one of the foundations of the next generation internet. In order to improve the performance of IPv6 network, it is a really important task to identify and manage application traffics efficiently and exactly. Aiming at the feature of IPv6, this article analyzes several technologies of application traffic identification and raises a proposal combined with the function of PME (Pattern Matching Engine) and TLU (Table Lookup Unit) on the hardware platform of network processor MPC8572. In this article, the result of research could not only fill the blank of proposals of IPv6 network application-traffic-identification system, but also provide a reference to building the safe and effective next generation network.
