In this study, refractory leachate was treated using FeCl3 and FeCl3 + PAM, respectively, to study removal efficiency of CODcr, SS and colority of leachate as a function of such influencing factors as pH, dosage of FeCl3 and/or PAM. It was found that optimal dosage and pH are 420 mg/L and 6 for FeCl3. The optimal condition when using PAM + FeCl3 for removal of CODcr was 15-minute reaction, pH of 5, FeCl3 dosage of 420 mg/L, PAM dosage of 5 mg/L. Effluent quality after coagulation at the optimal conditions met requirements of the tertiary standard described in “Integrated wastewater discharge standard”. Coagulation using PAM + FeCl3 at the optimal condition was recommended for advanced treatment of refractory leachate after biochemical treatment.
