Abstract
PON architectures previously proposed as a cost-effective upgrade option are evaluated in terms of estimated power consumption. The results show that, for a rack designed to deliver ~300Mb/s-bandwidth to each of 512 customers, 10GEPON consumes the least amount of operator´s power while dual-rate WDM PON uses the lowest per-customer power.
