Abstract
IMAMTA is an acronym for \´Integrated Management of Appropriate Medical Technology for Africa". The IMAMTA Approach is a tool designed to tackle the problems associated with the identification and successful deployment of appropriate medical technology to and for Africa. It advocates the adoption of a holistic and multifaceted approach as a panacea preferred beyond and above the pursuit of single-issue solutions. While specialisation is the reward for narrowed approaches, a more broader and integrated management system guarantees wider coverage within a shorter of period of time. Issues coverd include, but are not restricted to, the need for a technology, stimulating a market, technology testing, local content involvement, economics and marketing, adaptive technology and end-user education.
