Development of a generic procedure model for the enterprise resource planning implementation in small and medium enterprises

This study proposes a component-based approach to develop a generic procedure model for implementing enterprise resource planning (ERP) system in small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Although ERP vendors or consultants have their specific implementation procedures, a theoretical model which can be understood and used to manage the ERP implementation by all stakeholders of enterprise organization is not currently available. Based on the concept of life cycle components, the proposed model not only provides a high-level conceptual framework for assisting project managers to manage the implementation project, but also provides a detailed operational approach for the enterprise organization to meet any vendor specific implementation methodology in the implementation work. The proposed model is developed and also verified by a case study of a SME in Taiwan. Meanwhile, the underlined premises for the case of vanilla implementation are also established through the model.
