  • Abstract
The deployment of relaying technology in 3GPP LTE-Advanced (3rd Generation Partnership Project Long Term Evolution - Advanced) radio mobile systems has attracted much research interest over the last few years. However, the effect of relay antenna height on the system performance in a realistic scenario has not yet been adequately studied. This paper presents a measurement-based study to improve the knowledge regarding this problem. This study focuses on the Base Station to Relay Station (BS-RS) link only. A multi-frequency measurement campaign was performed in an urban macro-cellular environment. The analysis results show the general dependence of BS-RS link on the relay antenna height i.e. the received power increases with the increase in antenna height. In this paper, the path loss was also used to examine the models recently proposed by the European project - WINNER - for the link BS-RS in relaying scenario.
