Abstract :
Performance and implementation complexity between 2.4 GHz radar system with homodyne and 10 GHz radar system with super-heterodyne are compared and discussed. In particular, recently proposed architectures are examined, which are implemented by identical PLL and VCO. Both the operation of two different architectures and the superior performance of these radar systems can be understood by observing what level of signal is received based on same signal conditions. 10 GHz approach yields better performance in terms of RCS and antenna gain, but at the cost of increased implementation complexity.
