The electromagnetic damper has a special rotor structure in this paper. First, three-dimensional models are built based on MagNet of Infolytic corporation. Secondly, according to the simulation results of the air-gap flux densities analyzed by means of sampling in static field, the 3D transient model has been simplified for no reason for the department of simulation model. Finally, the effects of magnetic pole-pairs of changes on the torque-speed characteristic are mainly researched. The analysis results show that the relationship of the torque-speed ratio with the magnetic pole is neither directly proportional nor inversely proportional. The substance of torque-speed characteristic affected by magnetic pole-pairs is changes of the amplitude of the fundamental component of the air-gap flux density.
