Abstract
This paper refers to design of a device to be used within a household to allow consumers to monitor and control their electrical energy consumption. The device should also allow communication from the distribution network operator (DNO) to override its settings under emergency conditions. The project is a development of previous similar project carried out by Cardiff University which used power line communication (PLC).
