Abstract
For the purpose of maintaining a good ecological environment, this paper has analyzed available capacity of water resources and the water demand for human survival and development in the Beibu Gulf Economy Zone (Guangxi, China). The paper has also evaluated the population carrying capacity in the condition of rational and limit states of water exploitation and utilization in different level years. The results shows that by year 2030, if the exploitation and utilization of water resources remains rational, the overloading population in the Economy Zone will reach 778.3 thousand; Beihai city in the area, with limited water resource, has overloading population ranging from 200 thousand to 1.6 million between 2005 and 2030; Nanning city will have overloading population from 1 million to 1.2 million between 2020 and 2030. From year 2010 to 2030, in the condition of maintaining the limit exploitation and utilization of water resources, only the Beihai city has overloading population ranging from 170 thousand to 1.1 million. It is suggested taking measures to ensure the sustainable economic and social development of Beibu Gulf Economy Zone and preserving aquatic environment of rivers.
