Abstract
This paper provides an assessment method for solar home system (SHS). The authors devised two formulas to perform the assessment. One is called total assessment score (TAS) which evaluates system quality. The other is called performance / price index (PPI) which gives an overall assessment to systems considering the quality, price and lifetime of SHS. The assessment method allows the assessment to occur for SHS which have passed the required tests performed according to the standard IEC 62124 Photovoltaic (PV) standalone systems Design verification. The authors calculate PPI by the assessment method and analyzed PPI for 5 examples of SHS. The result shows that the price is the most effective factors affecting PPI when TAS is the same. The other effective factors are TAS and guarantee repair coefficient when price is about the same.
