Abstract
Based on ICE dynamics and the basic equation about the harmonic angular vibration and corresponding harmonic moment of each cylinder, a new vector method to diagnose individual misfiring cylinder using the measured crankshaft angular vibration was proposed, which needs not establish the diagnostic dynamic model of crankshaft harmonic angular vibration, and is independent of the crankshafts structure parameters and a great deal of experiments. Simulated and experiments results on 4-8 cylinder diesel engines verified the correctness and practicability of the new method.
