Abstract
Partial discharges which may occur in high-voltage devices under operation can cause major problems in time such as, breakdown, short circuit, system failure and power interruption. Therefore the work to be done is to ensure early detection of failures in electrical insulating materials. Partial discharge measurements conducted both in laboratory environment or on-site are usually exposed to noise originated from measurement circuit or surrounding environment and these effects prevent reasonable evaluation of measurement results. In this study, use of multi-resolution analysis in order to filter out noise from partial discharge data acquired in a laboratory is presented. By applying the defined method to acquired partial discharge signals it has been made possible to determine partial discharge parameters from the de-noised signals.
