Abstract
The use of machine vision in the automated manufacture of garments is discussed. The reasons why machine vision is needed and where and how the vision should be incorporated into the manufacturing process are discussed. The techniques used are examined. The problem is considered with particular reference to an advanced automation project for textile manufacture, called CIMTEX. Specific topics covered include wet fabric inspection, vision for piecepart handling, inspection of completed garments, and integration of machine vision into the production process
