Abstract
Random matrix theory has proven to be a very instrumental tool for the computation of the average capacity of MIMO communication channels. The problem formulation has been limited to Rayleigh fading, which makes the results very useful for NLOS channels like in macrocells of mobile communication systems. In addition to NLOS paths, microcells exhibit dominant LOS components requiring a more comprehensive statistical model such as the Rician fading. The Rice parameter expresses the relation between LOS and NLOS components. Using the Rice parameter, this work analyzes Rice MIMO capacity separating the bits due to strong LOS from those due to NLOS.
