  • Abstract
A novel U-slot patch antenna with electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) structure is presented. With the EBG structure, the current of the patch antenna is controlled. As a result, the beam is shifted with the arrangement of the EBG structure. The simulated results of a U-slot patch antenna with EBG structure has been given as an example. From the simulated results, the peak radiation of the antenna is shifted at 30° and the gain is 7.6 dBi at the working frequency 6.4 GHz. Furthermore, the parametric studies have been given. It is shown that the beam can be shifted at 10°, 20°, 30° and 40° with the arrangement of EBG structure. The advantage of antenna with EBG structure is low-profile, compact structure and controlled beam performances.
