  • Abstract
We propose a novel ultra wideband (UWB) planar adaptive antenna. It consists of multiple radially arrayed taper-slot antenna (TSA) elements. For its ginkgo-leaf-like shape of the TSA fins, we name the antenna the radially-arrayed ginkgo antenna (RAGA). We use p.i.n diodes to switch the TSA fins electronically. In the case of switched wire discone antenna we proposed previously, the element wires cooperate with one another to realize the adaptive directivity. Instead, in the present proposal, we intend to make the TSA elements isolated from others as much as possible so that they radiate independently in respective directions. The new antenna realizes a forward/backward (FB) ratio of 6dB at 7GHz in numerical analysis. Though the directivity is not so sharp, the RAGA will solve the local fading in severe multiple-path environment in indoor communications.
