Abstract
This paper describes a new estimation method of efficiency for both conventional and inverse class-E power amplifiers (PAs) operated above theoretical maximum operation frequency. The proposed method is evaluated using a 10-W RF power MOSFET at 2.45 GHz, and the measured results agree with the proposed method. For continuous-wave (CW) operation, the PA shows a peak power-added efficiency (PAE) of 46%, a power gain of 12 dB, a saturation output power (Psat) of 42.3 dBm, and a drain efficiency of 50%. The PAE over 40% with an output power of higher than 40 dBm is maintained over 200 MHz.
