  • Abstract
Weather apps have been around as long as smartphones. The idea of checking the forecast on the device that goes everywhere with you is so obvious that today´s smartphones all ship with a weather app as standard. Our wants and needs vary massively though, so there is also a huge range of third-party apps - to add on more forecasts, to provide prettier widgets, or, as our world´s climate evolves, to provide early warning of extreme weather events. In addition, developers have realised that modern smartphones can do a lot more than merely show you the same forecast that you could get from TV. These are sensor-laden devices that are capable of generating information as well as downloading it, and increasingly this includes weather data.
