Abstract
The paper focuses on the fundamental steps in the design of simulation systems where the best strategy to reach a target must be defined and then executed. A medical application - the cardiac valve surgery - has been chosen to implement and evaluate the underlying methodology and concepts. The simulation of cardiac valve reconstruction techniques is discussed, and an object-oriented expert system architecture is proposed.
