Abstract :
An evaluation protocol for assessing the electrical, mechanical and radiological safety aspects of intra-oral dental x-ray units in current use has been developed. No routine preventative maintenance or calibration is performed on any unit. Results indicate that over 50% of the units are of old design and fall well below safety standards for equipment today.
