Abstract :
Insulin is hypothesized to be a negative feedback signal which reflects body adiposity to the brain for body weight regulation. By showing that uptake of plasma insulin into cerebrospinal fluid is saturable, we provide evidence that circulating insulin enters the central nervous system via the endothelial blood-brain barrier insulin receptor. This insulin transport system may play an important role in body weight regulation.
