  • Abstract
In this work a pulse response of a miniature UWB monopole antenna is studied. A band-pass filter is integrated in the proposed antenna design. In order to achieve the band-rejection, a U-shaped slot is embedded in the radiating patch. The operation of the U-shaped slot is electronically controlled by a PIN diode. The performance of the antenna was experimentally evaluated in both frequency and time domain. Short monopulses with width of 100 ps were used for time domain measurements. An adequate pulse response of the UWB is crucial for impulse radio applications. It was shown that the integrated into antenna reactive components store energy of the pulse fed to the antenna. This energy is dissipated after the duration of the pulse, what results in a ringing effect of the antenna. The use of discrete components deteriorates antenna performance for pulse communication system. Such antenna can be used in Software Defined Radio (SDR), where a reconfigurable and broadband antenna is required.
