  • Abstract
    Being the initial step towards the countrywide analysis of optical wireless link availability, the present paper concentrates on the city of Istanbul. First, the critical months, when the link unavailability is high, are determined from the historically recorded airport visibility data. The cumulative distribution function, CDF, for visibility is then obtained and used to evaluate the variations of availability with the link distance for the enterprise class systems. The effect of the 2% and 5% transmission criteria, for visibility, on availability is emphasized.
