Abstract
A simple yet powerful control method, which allows direct reference-change response assignment, is employed for pulse-width-modulated dc-dc converters. The proposed control method is an extension of the recently-introduced proportional-weighted-integral control. In many applications, such as programmable dc power supplies, the output voltage is expected to demonstrate an almost ideal response upon receiving the reference-change command. Conventional control methods can only `tune´ this response by adjusting different control parameters. The presented method enables direct `assignment´ of such response as an arbitrary function of time. Comparing to the existing complex control algorithms, the presented control method is computationally similar to PID controllers and, thus, requires very modest computational resources. Numerical simulations and hardware measurements verify the performance of the presented control method and demonstrate its ability for reference-change response assignment.
