Abstract :
In this paper we focus on end-to-end (e2e) 1+1 dedicated path protection in a Connection-Oriented (CO) Ethernet over Wavelength Switched Optical Network (WSON) controlled by a unified GMPLS control plane. We propose a multi-layer protection scheme in which a path computation algorithm for both, working and protecting path is presented. The path computation algorithm for the working path is a shortest path-based algorithm which favors the usage of Forwarding Adjacency (FA) TE links, enhancing overall utilization of the network resources. Protecting paths are established using SRLG disjoint links taking into account both involved layers. We compare the proposed algorithm with the scheme where exclusively the upper-layer protection is used. The evaluation of the proposed multi-layer protection scheme is evaluated through the set of simulations using both NSFNET and Pan-European networks. It is shown that the proposed algorithm provides almost 100% of survivability in both networks for a given dynamic failure model, even with high traffic load. However, the upper-layer protection scheme gives the better probability of connection establishment.
