  • Abstract
    The automatic detection method for marine mesoscale eddy based on MODIS chlorophyll concentration products has been discussed, in which both wavelet analysis and Hough transform are used. Wavelet can obviously reduce the image noise and then benefit the effective edge detection. The automatic circle fitting of the eddy has been carried out by Hough transform after edge detection. The results show that the method proposed here has good effect on the cold eddy detection with a good consistency to the eddy area revealed by altimeter Sea Level Abnormal (SLA) data, whereas it has unsatisfactory effect on the warm eddy, for which further research is still needed on the edge threshold value.
