Abstract :
It has been demonstrated that the interference to RAS (radio astronomy stations) by 79GHz UWB automotive radars is suppressed by as much as 64.5dB in practical operating conditions due to incoherent nature of the radar signals combined with the integration features built in RAS receivers. An example simulation for a Japanese RAS resulted in a radar-free radius required for avoiding interference to be 18 m even with 100% market penetration of automotive radars.
