Abstract :
In noise radars which use correlation receiver the correlation noise floor introduced by a strong echo may mask weaker target echoes. This problem, referred to as the masking effect, may drastically decrease the system dynamic range, especially for short integration times. A very promising method to diminish its influence is to use a waveform that produces lowered level of noise floor near the main lobe of the correlation. An experiment conducted with a ground-based SAR demonstrator using such a waveform and obtained SAR images of a real scene are presented in the paper.
