Abstract :
AMI(Advanced Metering Infrastructure), the electric information service infrastructure between the end user or end device and the electric company, is a essential system for implementing Smart Grid and a principal means of realizing Demand Response. AMR(Automatic Meter Reading) system for industrial customers was adopted by KEPCO in 2000 and commercialized for the first time in 2005. Currently measuring information of 170,000 high voltage customers are automatically acquired every 15 minutes. KEPCO developed AMI technologies and this project was performed by May, 2011. AMI has several methods to connect from end device to applications of utility and there are many standards communication protocols. To communicate between physical service layers, some combinations and transformations of the protocols are required. AMI environment is very complex because it should be considered the area of home area network and demand respond application. This paper will present the development plan shortly and suggest available protocol combinations of AMI environment for effective bi-directional communication.
