Abstract
An interactive user-friendly software suite, code-named VITA, was developed by the authors for implementing electronic medical record (EMR) systems of hospitals in Sub-Saharan Africa. VITA was designed as a web based application running off a central server. The paper describes the functional features of VITA, its mode of deployment and the challenges faced in adapting and adopting the system for use within a university health centre in Southern Nigeria.
