  • Abstract
In this paper, we propose a new radio interference detection approach. The approach which is based on Time--Frequency Ratio Of Mixtures(TIFROM) employs an antenna array containing at least one directional antenna. The antenna array (i.e., one directional antenna and one Omni-antenna) acts as a mixing matrix which is invertible. Analogous to blind source separation (BSS), we use TIFROM algorithm to determine whether there is only one source in the TF domain or not, the difference is that here we look for more-than-one-cases which indicates interference on the radio frequency we are observing, while in BSS only-one-cases is sought for. Unlike other radio interference detection methods, the proposed approach only requires slight differences in the TF distributions of the considered signals. By using TF ratios of the mixed signals, it automatically determines these multi-source TF areas and estimates the strength of interference. Detailed results concerning mixtures of speech and music signals are presented and show that this approach yields very high performance.
