Abstract

The research on relationship between IT capabilities and firm performance is hot. However, we found that many studies regard the IT capability as a whole ignoring the types of IT capabilities. Meantime they do not take into account the industry environment conditions that influence the relationship. First, we propose IT capability can be divided into IT capability of base, IT capability of application and IT capability of dynamism. Then our study supposes the industry environment is dynamic or complex or comprehensive. The article aims at empirically examining the degree to which three industry environments (dynamism, complexity and comprehensive) influence the impact of each type of IT capability on firm performance. Our results show the relationship between IT abilities and firm performance becomes more complicated when considering industry environment condition.
