Research on Competitive Strategy in Mobile Communication with Patentometrics

Patent, as the knowledge carrier of technical intelligence, economic intelligence and commercial intelligence, had been commonly recognized as the most important information source for the managers in the world. Taking the patents of the Third Generation Mobile Communication in Derwent Innovation Index as the datum, the paper made comparison among Qualcomm, Samsung and Huawei from the following 4 perspectives: technology develop trends, technology structure, key technology and patents quality, covering patents cited and H index. With the results, it could make conclusion that a great gap existed between Huawei and the other two companies in technology impact, and then three relevant competitive strategies, including primary innovation and integrative strategy, secondary innovation strategy and patent alliance strategy, were designed to improve the technology strength of our Chinese companies.
