Abstract
This paper examines different aspects of power system observability and above all the placement of PMUs intended to make grids fully observable and thus improve state estimation. Different scenarios with varying numbers of PMUs are presented and analyzed. In addition, the results of dynamic simulations of partial grid synchronization highlight the benefits of accurately measured phase angles.
