  • Abstract
The presence of collimated 1.5–2.0 MeV electron beams in 0.9–1.0 MA high-Z x-pinch plasmas leads to the generation of hard x-ray radiation in the crossing point of the wires. The results of 0.9–1.0 MA Fe, Mo, and W x-pinch studies have shown that an x-pinch is an effective source of hard x-ray radiation (more than 50–100 keV). An anisotropic hard x-ray radiation with an energy of several hundred keV was observed moving upwards along the axis of x-pinches. The size of the source was estimated as small as 1 mm. The time duration of a hard x-ray beam from an x-pinch is 100–150 ns. The side-on measured electron temperature is higher than the end-on temperature. Introducing of a hard x-ray synchrotron radiation in a side-on direction is used for the explanation of the distortion of side-on spectra. The value of the local magnetic field in plasma hot spots required for the effective hard x-ray synchrotron radiation appearance has been estimated.
