Abstract :
Experiment studies of a vircator with microwave feedback were conducted on the TM-01 REB accelerator. In the improved vircator scheme, the microwave generated by virtual cathode oscillation would be partially fed back to the beam acceleration region to modulate the e-beam current and so as to improve the performance of the vircator. It was found from the experiment that the radiated microwave power, which peaked up to 1.25GW, was related to the length of the feedback waveguide and had periodic character when the feedback waveguide length changed step by step. The experimental results were presents and a forced oscillation model was proposed to explain the experimental phenomena.
