Abstract
The problem of generating short pulses of electron current for injection into accelerator exists. Devices built around by traditional methods cannot generate pulses of electron current shorter than 1 ns with amplitude of current up to 2 A, and with small jitter. The cathode and driving electrodes (grids) are taken from generator triode or tetrode. The possibility of generating electron pulses with a current of up to 2 A and duration of 0.6–0.7 ns (on the level of half height) is demonstrated in this work. For this aim we have applied the method of adding harmonic signal of fundamental frequency (360 MHz) which one is equal to double frequency of bunching and accelerating resonators (180 MHz) and signal of fourth subharmonic (90 MHz) of fundamental frequency. This method excludes jitter, which exists in the traditional switch circuits, and gives the possibility to control the amplitude of electron current.
