Abstract
The need to transmit real time traffic over mobile ad hoc network is rising. Real time applications have quality of service requirements such as delay, bandwidth and jitter. The time-sensitive nature of such traffic requires the packet to reach its destination within its specified deadline or becomes useless. So, Mobile ad hoc network should provide quality of service mechanisms to meet the requirements of such applications. However, the unique characteristics of mobile ad hoc network like infrastructure-less networks, mobility, power consuming, limited bandwidth and channel sharing make this task challenging. Protocols and frameworks are proposed to address the problem of provision QoS in MANET. This paper presents issues and solutions of QoS provisioning and the current state of art of QoS in mobile ad hoc networks, provides a survey of QoS-based routing, MAC and framework (cross layer) protocols in MANETs.
