Abstract :
In this paper, we propose a new type of fault current limiters (FCL), the magnetic-shield-type air-core transformer coupling solid-state FCL (MSTCSSFCL), with the combination of the superconducting tube, air-core transformer and SCR bridge. It has some advantages, including the negligible impedance under normal conditions, instantaneous response to the short-circuit fault, fast recovery, low volume, low weight, and so on. Principles are investigated using the equivalent circuit, and verified by simulation results of the field-circuit coupled FEA method.
