  • Abstract
A previous paper has been written on the generalized modeling method of overhead transmission lines for use in power-line carrier (PLC) systems. Knowledge of the effects of shield wires on PLC signal attenuation for various coupling methods would be useful to relay engineers. In addition to the effect of the coupling method on PLC signal attenuation, other problems, such as resonance conditions resulting in high signal attenuation may also occur depending on the PLC signal frequency and the length of the shield wire segments. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to provide awareness to relay engineers of problems that may arise when applying PLC systems on transmission lines with segmented shield wires.
