Abstract
This paper proposes a simple but very powerful method to generate an intermediate depth map of an arbitrary view-point between the given leftmost and rightmost depth maps. It is to control the view-point in displaying an appropriate holographic view to a target viewer. Current techniques in holography are about the front view so that a viewer cannot see the proper image if he or she moves out of the predefined view range. This paper also assumes that a digital hologram is generated by a CGH (computer-generated hologram) method, which requires the depth information to the view-point as well as the light intensity information. The proposed scheme uses two disparity values to calculate the relative disparity increment to the relative depth value. The disparity increment value is used to render the depth map in a desired view. Also a simple hole-filling method is occupied to treat the occlusion regions as the post-processing. The experimental results showed that the average PSNR of the generated intermediate view-point depth map is about 33.14dB and the proposed method can generate about 2 frames of intermediate depth maps per second in software.
