Abstract :
Development of effective education and training program for Air Traffic Control Officer (ATCO) trainees is an important issue in ATC domain. However, efficient skill transfer from experienced ATCOs to trainees is difficult because ATCOs often utilize tacit knowledge in their work. The present research aims at visualizing ATC task processes and ATCO´s tacit knowledge involved in their control strategies by using a process visualization tool of ATC tasks, named COMPAS1 (COMPAS in interactive mode / COMPAS: Cognitive system Model for simulating Projection-based behaviors of Air traffic controller in dynamic Situations). In a simulation-based experiment, performance differences of two types of control strategies were successfully visualized by COMPAS1 from viewpoints of task efficiency and preventive reduction of risk.
