Abstract
Generation process of vortex gliding arc plasma (VGAP) and corresponding motion characteristics of the electric arc are recorded and investigated by the macroscopic and microcosmic point of view. The generation of VGAP is divided into excitement, development, and stabilization stages, sorted according to the balance of input energy and heat dissipation. The periodic (~30 ms) development process and the shape of electric arc are influenced by gas flow field, and the arc roots on anode and cathode perform different. The thorough development and stretching of the electric arc of VGAP provide a good application prospect.
