Abstract
Based on well-known results on electromagnetic theory the model of a 4-phase variable reluctance (VR) motor without saturation is developed. It is shown that the motor dynamics can be described by the normal form of a single-input-single-out non-linear system. Such a formulation is obtained by applying an appropriate logic on the driver or power inverter in order to achieve a simple structure for each phase of the motor. Using parametric information of a real VR motor digital simulations demonstrate that the proposed representation complies with nominal specifications.
