  • Abstract
A novel typology of Buck converter with Quasi-Z-Source (QZS) filter in the output is proposed, which is to be used as the output intrinsically safe power supply in the underground of coal mine. Compared with the conventional buck converter, the proposed Buck converter can slower the capacitor discharge rate effectively when the output short-circuit happen. Therefore, during the same interval, the output spark power and energy can be decreased greatly. The basic structure and the steady state analysis for the new typology are discussed firstly, then the mathematical model of the spark discharge voltage, current, power and energy for both conventional buck converter and QZS buck converter are built. Finally, the experimental results are given with comparison of spark power and energy between the new buck converter and the conventional buck converter, to verify the validity and features of the proposed new typology.
