Abstract
Inertial confinement fusion (ICF) research by light ion beam (LIB) is extensively performed at ILE, examining the features compared with laser ICF. The main achievements were (a) development of pulse power technology, 1 TW pulse power machine REIDEN IV was completed and generated 0.2 TW light ion beam which was focused up to 1011 W/cm2, (b) development of diagnostics of the beam particle energy and focused current density, profile and power density, (c) investigation of beam-target interaction and scaling of ablation pressure, (d) beam transport by laser guided plasma channel and (e) implosion simmulation and pellet design for optimization of gain.
