Abstract
The questions of high power ion beam (HPIB) interaction with a matter (in particular, with metals) are of great interest because of new physical effects and also in view of wide application potential. Earlier we have found that a plasma layer is formed in a target surface as a result of HPIB interaction (with N ≥ Nthr, where N is the power density), further this layer expands into a free-space. We consider structural changes found in surface and in near surface layers to be the result of surface temperature effects and dynamical processes occuring in a target bulk. Presented paper deals with a numerical model developed for shock wave formation processes occuring in a target. The effects of plasma flame and features of ion beam irradiation are discussed.
